Dispatch from Cairo

Hello from your ultimate childhood-dream, gold-star-historian-girlie bucket list destination: Egypt! I’m scheduling this to go out a little bit before the usual Wednesday 5pm slot because at that time—the time you are now receiving and reading this—I will be on a sleeper train heading to Aswan.
I’ve had a few days solo in Cairo, mostly visiting smaller/unusual cultural spots, reading, and doing foodie walking tours. Then we started our epic Aweventurer trip on Monday. I’m thrilled to report that every single person in our group is, yet again, excellent. All kind; all nerds. I know we’re about to have our minds blown by so many more amazing things, but I’m also excited for our book club sessions.
So I’ve put together several thousand words of an on-the-go travelogue. It’s Cairo-specific, but also a lot about the books I’ve been reading to prepare for this trip, and about some fucked history I started digging into, and some thoughts on travelling at this time.
These diaries are paywalled, like my annual diaries are, because they’re personal and significant to me. They’re also a bit political, inevitably. Follow me over on Instagram if you just want the nice pictures. :)
