Things I learned turning 31
Sorry it's a little late! We were in the car on an xmas adventure. :)
Well folks, we’ve done it. I want to congratulate you personally for surviving another year. There were some high highs and some low lows. In the words of every adult I ever eye-rolled at while growing up, ‘I don’t know where this year went!’ But then I was pulling this year’s diary entries together and had many woah moments. This year was a lot for me. I told my therapist yesterday that I feel much older now, having just turned 31, than I did 12 months ago when I was had just turned 30. She replied, ‘Older or wiser?’ Which was very kind and generous of her and is why I like her because she is nice to me. Ha! But seriously, probably both.
In case you were also in the personal essay rabbit hole we discussed last week, the author of the original Guardian piece has done a little Twitter thread replying (pointedly?) to the Slate piece. Sad girls, mad girls, lit girls, tit swirls; we’re stuck in an Escher print of this stuff!
I’m taking next week off, and we’ll be back in the first week of January with Style.
Anyways, here are several thousand words of selected diary entries I made this year, lightly edited. As I said last year, I hope you like it! But don’t bother telling me if you don’t.
