Completed my first Sri Lankan water colour the other night! A couple of hours of bliss while drinking Sri Lankan tea and watching the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives… what a vibe 😝
I have been trying to decide which of my October new release books to read on my upcoming holiday (why is this time of year so stressful as a book nerd with so many new releases?!) You helped me bring Rapture up to the top of the list. As a new subscriber, can't wait for my first spoiler alert <3
I am SO up for Spoiler alert. Can’t wait to dig into Rapture. Am in WA and I don’t know there is any convenient time for everyone with daylight savings so just go with what works! One day we might be able convince people here that the cows won’t get confused if we adopt daylight savings…😜
I'm so sorry to be painful but 6:30 Sydney time when there's daylight savings is the worst for us West Australians. 3:30 is just so dang early and I'm still at work then. I understand if it can't be changed but thought it was better to give an honest answer just in case.
I also got the email today and was surprised as I read every week when it comes out 🤷🏻♀️- so I downloaded the Substack app to make sure I don’t get cut 🙏🏼
I'm no expert on the matter, but I've read conflicting advice on culling email lists. One camp says to cull to reduce instances of your emails getting blocked and increasing the likelihood that you end up in everyone's spam folder, and the other camp says not to cull because many email accounts have their privacy settings set high, preventing you from seeing if that person has opened your email or not. Apparently, this happens more frequently with people using apple systems. So, there's a high chance you will cull some active readers.
Oh mannnnnn. Why does it have to be so complicated! Fingers crossed Substack come back to me with some kind of answer. And thank you for the info re: Apple too. 🤞🤞
I’ve also heard the same. You could ask people to reconfirm they want to keep receiving by clicking a link? I think link clicks can be tracked despite apple’s settings, I’m not sure how much detail substack gives on this compared to other email providers which tell you exactly who clicked on what link.
That Sally Rooney quote has stuck with me all week. The whole interview was really interesting, including the comparison with Austen, Dostoevsky etc. and her comments about the climate crisis and writing because she didn't know what else to do. Her answers made the interview questions seem so hilariously odd, but then they perfectly showed her point. Like with Swift and other high profile Young Women, I find myself wishing she'd go further with critiquing capitalism but then I realise the discourse is cooked and we're all just doing our best. (Swift could maybe ditch the jet...)
thank u for the shoutout - lurve the things that doing a Brah Lah travelling book club inspire you to do 🦞💗
YAYAYAYAY YABBIES

I can picture this all SO clearly and it's GOGGERS.
Also v v v proud of Em and Tiana with their epic Substacks - you girlys are just proper inspirational go getters. Can’t wait to read more of both!
For the billionth time, a podcast by you and Han would go off.
Not sure the world is ready for that 😂
It’d be full of niche af reel references, yabbbiiiiieeesss and swearing bleeps 🤣🤣

Yay! You won't regret it. I promise. It's AMAZING.
One of my favourite things is discovering and listening to other people’s Spotify playlists! Look forward to having a listen!
Here's a bonus: the party bus playlist from the trip.

Omg how gorgeous is the cover of Rapture?! Might have to get the actual book just for that. 🙂↕️
delicious. i am both aching to go back to Sri Lanka and giddy with excitement to see you (and your many links to other joys) in my inbox
Natasha’s portrait of you is magnificent, so many beautiful layers 🥹 sounds like it’s gone to a worthy home.
I love it soooooooo much.

Yikes - to make it work for after-work for WA folk, it would need to be at least 8.30pm Sydney time, which is too late. Sorry Tif!!
4:30 Perth time would be a bit more manageable if 7:30 Sydney time was possible (stupid West Australians voting against daylight savings)
Thought it appropriate to save buying Rapture until Saturday on Love Your Bookshop Day. Can’t wait to read it… HARD.
Perfect book perfect day no notes.

I'm so sorry. I've emailed Substack's support team. Nobody will get cut until I get to the bottom of this!

Yessss happy Spoiler Alert is a go!!! A reminder now in my calendar for the 30th
Yay!!!! I'm so excited by how organically it is coming about. I hope (and trust) it'll work. We'll build it together.

I really liked what she said about the visibility of young women. How it's such a double-edged sword.
Excited for Spoilers Alert and the fact that it's being recorded! I'm still on the Brisbane City library hold list for the Rapture 😂
Excellent playlist! Getting me through my work day. Thanks for sharing
